Jock was born on 4 December 1919 at Kirkcaldy, Scotland. His first flight took place on the morning of 19 July 1941, with instructor Sergeant Fieldhouse, in Tiger Moth aircraft N9367. He later made his first solo flight in a DH82a, aircraft T5807 — a flight lasting just 15 minutes, and the beginning of a flying career that would last over 39 years.
Jock passed away on 27 July 2016, aged 96, in Sydney, leaving behind one of the most comprehensive personal flying history collections I have ever seen. With the kind permission of Jock's daughter, Sandra Ross, I have the honour of cataloguing his personal collection, which contains amazing Bomber Command, SAS, and Qantas flying history.
